Mickey Hardaway’ Director’s Next Film, Period Drama ‘Jefferson Street,’ Set for May Production

Marcellus cox, the director of 2023’s surprise indie hit “Mickey Hardaway,” has set his next film, “Jefferson Street,” for production to begin in late May 2024.

“Jefferson Street” set in the height of the civil rights era of 1966, tells the story of Charles Otis, an African American homicide detective of the Detroit Police Department, who travels down south deep in the heart of Texas, to invesigate the murder of his mother at the hands of the Ku Klux Klan.

“Jefferson Street” is currently in pre-production, with the production being handled by Lift Gate Productions.

After watching Mickey Hardaway and reading Jefferson Street, I’m really excited to work with Marcellus Cox and bring Jefferson Street to life! The characters, their story and the overall world is well developed and the story itself is very necessary for the times we currently live in, said Leon Pierce Jr, Lift Gate Productions’ chief operating officer. “A story that showcases the hate and prejudice in this country, but how it can be fought and overcome with justice and love. Cox’s latest movie, the critically acclaim psychological drama “Mickey Hardaway” will begin streaming on The Criterion Channel later this year, it’s currently streaming on Prime Video.
